Today's Game - This morning the Buffalo Bisons play Syracuse in the rubber game of their three-game set. Tomorrow the Bisons travel to Allentown, PA and play the IronPigs in a four game series. The Bisons return to Coca-Cola Field to host the Chiefs on Monday night and continue home play against the Pawtucket Red Sox. That was yesterday - Former Bisons' slugger Clint Robinson homered twice and drove home five for the Chiefs and lead Syracuse to an 8-4 victory over the Herd on Tuesday afternoon. The Bisons had a pair of leads early in the game that they could not hold. Dwight Smith, Jr. had three hits for the Bisons in the loss. Valdez starts in debut - Cesar Valdez takes the ball in his Bisons debut after being claimed by Toronto (5/5) from Oakland. He's pitched professionally for 10 seasons, including three years in the Mexican League (2012-13, 15) and over seven in the ARZ (2006-10), PIT (2011), MIA (2011) and HOU (2016) organizations...is 53-42 with a 3.83 ERA (336 er in 790.0 ip) in 179 games, 122 starts in the minors...also had a stint in the majors with Arizona in 2010 when he went 1-2 with a 7.65 ERA in nine games, two starts... Named Arizona's Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2008. Arms race - Buffalo's pitching staff remains one of the toughest in the league as noted by leading the circuit with a 3.00 ERA. The Bisons pitching staff ranks 1st of 2nd in six different categories. First in ERA (3.00), saves (12) and earned runs (70). The staff ranks second: Runs allowed (89), hits allowed (206), fewest walks (74). Smith sizzles in the sun - Dwight Smith Jr. knocked out three hits on Tuesday afternoon raising his daytime average to .328, plus a double and 2RBI. Eight of 10 XBH, 10 of 16 RBI and seven of 10 walks have all be produced during day games. Overall, his .323 AVE ranks seventh in the IL. Getting a jump - Jason Leblebijian jumped out of a small 6-29 (11G) slide with a four hit game on Monday night, reaching base five times (4-4, BB, 2RBI), raising his mark 34 points. He now ranks fourth (.337) among IL hitters, first in RBI (23), second OBP (.450), and third SLG (.578). A truly historic outing - Chad Girodo logged his club leading fourth save as he fired the first four-inning save for the Bisons in their Blue Jays affiliation (since 2013). More impressively, Girodo's efficiency, using just 48 pitches to face all 15 batters. Overall the lefty allowed 3H, 2R/1ER, 4K, 0BB in the four frame save. Lopez dispenser - In his second game as a Bisons player, Raffy Lopez (2-4, 2HR, 5RBI, BB) cranked a pair of home runs. A go-ahead, two run shot in the 2nd and a three run blast in fourth led Buffalo's 9-3 win Monday. Lopez joins Mike Ohlman (COL 4/23) and Rowdy Tellez (4/8 SWB) with multi-homer games this season. He had just three home runs in his first 176 career Triple-A games coming into the game. Backstop or blaststop - The Bisons catching core has belted 10 of the the club's 23 home runs this season. Recently promoted, Mike Ohlman leads the team and is tied for second-most in the IL with seven and Alex Monsalve adds one. Raffy Lopez sent a pair out in just his second game since being promoted from Double-A. The combo has also produced six individual multi-RBI games. Recent roster action - Tuesday the Bisons activated RHP Mat Latos... Monday the Blue Jays selected C Mike Ohlman and put RHP Mike Bolsinger on the Taxi Squad for his start Tuesday night. RHP Ceasar Valdez was activated (optioned by TOR 5/5). RHP Casey Lawrence was designated for assignment.
