Bucs Baby Derby this Saturday

Urbandale (IA) Crawling will be a competitive sport at Buccaneer Arena on Saturday March 3 when the Des Moines Buccaneers and the Des Moines Area Religious Council present the "2012 Baby Derby" during the first intermission of the Bucs game that night against the Lincoln Stars at 7pm. The "2012 Baby Derby" is being held to coincide with the "Central Iowa's Largest Baby Shower" promotion in which fans are being asked to bring baby items for donation to the DMARC food pantry.
A group of six preselected babies will race on a 10 foot mat at center-ice to highlight an evening in which DMARC is educating the area on the need for baby items to be donated. Yhe goal of the evening is to collect items ranging from diapers and formula to bottles and burp cloths.
"As a new father myself I know the costs associated with raising an infant so it's not a surprise that there are families out there who need assistance in providing these necessities" said Bucs' VP of Sales and Communications Scott Montesano. "We are proud that DMARC has trusted us with putting on this event and helping to collect these needed items."
All fans who bring an item will be entered into a drawing to win one of a number of prizes that will be announced throughout the game. DMARC has asked for any baby items including diapers, formula, wipes and clothing be brought to the game where they will be collected by DMARC volunteers on site.
In addition to the game and DMARC involvement, all fans are invited to stick around following the game for a FREE skate with the Bucs players.
The Buccaneers are also home this Friday night at 7pm against the Muskegon Lumberjacks and it will be another Miller Lite Beer Night with $1.50 Miller Lite draws all night long.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League beginning in the fall of 2011. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
