Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 1-0 in overtime.
The Laredo Bucks and their rivals, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, battled for the third straight game Friday evening in Hidalgo. These two teams met last weekend in Laredo, where the Bucks swept the Bees at home.
The Bucks began the period with several opportunities to light the lamp, but were unable to find the net. Torrie Jung had a stellar first period, denying every Killer Bee shot. The Bucks had their first powerplay opportunity of the night with 1:29 left in the period, but were unable to score. The Bucks were outshot by the Bees 14-8.
The Bucks still had 30 seconds remaining on the powerplay when the second period of play began, but the Bees were able to deny the Bucks. Torrie Jung kept the game scoreless with a tremendous odd-man rush save at 2:49 in the frame. Most of the period was spent in transition, with neither team able to cross the goal line. The Bucks outshot the Bees 14-10.
Torrie Jung continued to play flawlessly in the third period. Both teams battled to be the first one on the board, but neither team were successful. The third frame ended 0-0 sending the game into overtime.
The Bucks went on the powerplay with 1:43 remaining in sudden death overtime. Matt Hanson was able to score the lone goal of the game with 50.9 seconds remaining in overtime and only 8 seconds remaining on the powerplay. This was the first shut-out win for the Bucks this season.
