Bucks Sign Three Guys To Temporary Contracts

Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks, members of the Northwoods League have announced they have signed three players to temporary contracts. They include catcher Pierce Belaustegui of Viterbo University, Pitcher/Outfielder Marcos Calderon of Butler University, and Shortstop Jory Koehler of Robert Morris.

In 2013, Belaustegui was very reliable as he started 40 games at catcher for Viterbo and turned in a career year. Belaustegui hit .311, 38 hits, 7 doubles, 17 RBI, and a .410 Slugging percentage. He obtained an excellent fielding percentage at .977 and only committed five errors on the year.

Before transferring the Viterbo, Pierce was a force for Taft College in his two years at the school. He was a two year starter, who made 1st team all CVC his sophomore season. Belausegui was born on January 22,1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada and is majoring in psychology.

As a junior, Marcos Calderon was a great contributer for the Butler Bulldogs during the 2013 season. He led the team in at-bats, runs, and second on the team in hits. He finished the season with a .268 batting average, 51 hits, 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 23 RBI.

In 2012, Calderon emerged as the team's starting centerfielder. He played in 55 games, starting 45 times, batt

ed .274 with 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Calderon posted 12 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI outings. During his freshman season with the Bulldogs he was also used as a relieft pitcher, totaling 20.1 innings over nine pitching appearances, eight in relief work. He posted a 0-2 record with a 4.43 ERA along with batting .231 in 26 at-bats as an outfielder.

Calderon's hometown is Miami, Florida, attending Belen Jesuit. He was named Florida's Class 4A Player of the Year in 2009 after batting .511 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs. As a pitcher, he posted a no-hitter in the district tournament. He was also named the school's sportsman of the year as well as Team MVP and team captain.

As a sophomore at Kanakee Community College, Jory Koehler was impressive as a hitter as he hit .270 with 5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run, 41 runs scored and 42 RBI. Koehler played 3rd base for Kankakee but will most likely play shortstop for the Bucks. As a freshman, he batted .265, 2 home runs, 27 runs scored, and 35 RBI.
