Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release

The Thunder Bay Border Cats open their 11th season in the Northwoods League tonight when they kick off a three game road trip in Willmar against the Stingers at 8:05pm ET. The Cats and Stingers will also meet Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium before Thunder Bay concludes its opening road trip Friday night in St. Cloud against the Rox.

The Cats have three returning players this season with outfielder Cory Kay (Harper College), third baseman Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University), and first baseman Ryan Casillas (Southern Illinois University). The game will also mark the debut of new Cats manager Dan Holcomb after Andy Judkins led Thunder Bay to a 32-37 record last season.

The Cats roster also features four Ontario natives in the infield with Pickering's Michael Foster (Northeastern University), Oakville's Kyle Hann (Mississippi State), Whitby's Joey Hawkins (Missouri State) and Thunder Bay's Carter McEachern (Trinity University). Righthander Chad Mayle (Western Michigan University) will draw the opening night assignment on the mound for Thunder Bay. The Stingers, who won the 2nd half North Division title in 2012, won the season series last year 5-4.

The Cats host the Stingers in their home opener this Saturday, June 1st, at 6:05pm at Subway Field.
