Bucks Look To Re-Group This Week
January 21, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League will look to re-group this week after losing four straight games, including two in a row at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
After their 6-0 loss on December 20th to Odessa, the Bucks then won eight out of their next nine games to gain an 11 point lead in the Southern conference.
Then the Mudbugs came to town January 12th.
The Bucks fell behind 4-1 after one period to Bossier, before falling 6-2. Laredo then went on the All-Star Break before losing in Oklahoma City on Friday 3-1, in Austin on Saturday 2-1, and being blanked by Corpus Christi on Sunday 4-0.
The Bucks have fallen behind by two goals in every game of the losing streak, and never once had the lead.
In his office on Monday morning Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski was busy trying to improve his team.
"I am trying to make some trades right now", Ruskowski said. "I need to make a decision on a goaltender also, it's a tough one".
The goaltender decision that Ruskowski is talking about, is whether to keep Kevin Beech or John Ceci as the second goalie behind All-Star Dustin Traylen.
It all started on January 4th when Traylen came out of the game against Rio Grande Valley with an injury, forcing Ruskowski to bring in Ceci on a five-game contract while Traylen's injury healed.
Beech, who was the last player to make the Bucks roster this season, has posted a 10-4-1 record, with a 2.42 goals against average, and a .900 save percentage. Beech started the season 6-0, but has since gone 4-4-1, including being taken out of five games in which he had started.
Ceci was brought in on January 5th, and backed up Beech in the January 6th win against Colorado.
Ceci has played in four games for the Bucks, going 1-2 with a 3.41 goals against average, and a .882 save percentage.
This season has been slow in terms of player transactions for the Bucks. As of Monday Ruskowski has made only one trade (Tyler Harder to OKC), and has not waived any players. At this time last season, Ruskowski had made one trade and waived seven players.
When the Bucks take the ice Friday in Corpus Christi there could be some new faces on the roster if Ruskowski has his way.
In the Bucks five previous seasons, they have only lost five games in a row once. In 2004-05 Laredo lost six games in a row from October 29th to November 11th, 2004.
Laredo can only practice on Tuesday at the LEC due to the Professional Bull Riding show this week. The Bucks are tentatively scheduled to practice in Corpus Christi on Wednesday and Thursday.
