Bucks Given Coal, Loss by Bees

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 5-1 Tuesday night at State Farm Arena. The Bucks winless streak extends to five games (0-4-1) as they fall to 9-13-4 (22 points).

Juliano Pagliero stopped 41 of 42 shots for the Killer Bees while Aaron Lewicki and Zak McClellan had two goals each to lead Rio to their fifth straight win.

The Killer Bees (13-12-3, 29 points) jumped out in front of the Bucks for the second straight game as they earned a 2-0 edge after the first period.

Rio would go up 1-0 at the 7:01 mark of the first when Aaron Lewicki scored a power-play goal from the slot to pick up his 11th of the season.

The Bees would increase their lead to 2-0 with 6:27 left in the first when Zak McClellan picked up an errant pass at the bottom of the right circle and hammered a shot into the open Bucks net.

Laredo outshot Rio 10-9 in the first period.

The Bees would pick up two more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Tomas Klempa scored from the slot to increase the Bees lead to 3-0 at the 5:16 mark of the second period. Klempa has a team-leading 14 goals this season.

Rio Grande Valley would go up 4-0 with just 26 seconds left in the second when McClellan scored his second of the night, this time on the power-play from the right circle.

The Killer Bees outshot the Bucks 17-15 in the second period.

The Bucks got on board and made it 4-1 at the 8:28 mark of the third when Jarred Mohr struck from the point on the power-play. The goal was Mohr's third of the season.

The Bees would make it 5-1 nearly two minutes later when Lewicki scored his second of the night from the left circle on an odd-man rush.

The Bucks outshot the Bees in the third period 17-12 and outshot Rio for the game 37-32.

Pier Pelletier stopped 22 of 26 shots as he was replaced by Torrie Jung in the third period. Jung stopped 11 of 12 shots he faced.

Jeff Hazelwood was scratched from Tuesday's game with an illness.

STYFFE ACTIVATED, SCALI TO IR

Prior to Tuesday's game the Bucks activated Justin Styffe from the 10-day IR and placed Joe Scali on the 10-day IR. Styffe, who missed the last 11 games, has played in seven games this season picking up two goals, while Scali has played in 13 games with six points (2-46).
