
Bucks Comeback Falls Short, Lose To Eagles 5-4

WINDSOR, CO- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League lost to the Colorado Eagles 5-4 in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,329 fans at the Budweiser Events Center in a re-match of last year's President's Cup Finals Saturday night. Laredo is now 11-3, and has now lost two straight games, and three of their last four.
Laredo trailed by scores of 3-0 and 4-1 before tying the game in the third period, only to have the Eagles Dave Iannazzo score a power-play goal with just over four minutes left to give Colorado the win.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first period as they jumped on Laredo. Colorado got on the scoreboard with just over two minutes gone by in the game as Ed McGrane scored to make it 1-0. Colorado made it 2-0 at the 15:34 mark as Jay Birnie scored from the right circle past Bucks goaltender Kevin Beech. The Eagles stretched their lead to 3-0 almost two minutes later at the 17:24 mark when Seth Leonard wrapped around the net and snuck the puck in past Beech. Colorado outshot Laredo in the first period 18-9.
The Bucks battled back and scored three goals in the second period to make it 4-3 Eagles. Igor Agarunov got Laredo on the board at the 6:50 mark of the period as he sent a slap-shot from the right circle past Eagles goaltender Marco Emond making it 3-1. Andrew Desjardins and Serge Dube picked up assists. The Eagles then got one back as they made it 4-1 when Steve Haddon scored past Beech. After that goal Dustin Traylen replaced Beech in the Laredo net. Beech stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced.
The Bucks made it 4-2 at the 13:37 mark when Steve Simoes scored from right in front of Emond. It was Simoes third goal of the season, with Desjardins and David Victor getting the assists. For Victor it was his first professional point. Jeff Bes made it 4-3 Colorado when he scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season off of a rebound in front of Emond. Matt Summers picked up the assist.
Laredo tied the game at four with just over seven minutes left in the game as James Hiebert scored his ninth goal of the year off of a rebound in front of the net. Bes picked up the assist.
Colorado took the lead for good with just over four minutes left in the third period as Iannazzo scored the game-winner on the power-play, giving Colorado a 5-4 lead, and eventually the win.
Laredo had a power-play opportunity with under 30 seconds left in the game, they pulled Traylen to try and tie the game with a two-man advantage but Emond made two critical saves to win the game for the Eagles.
The Bucks will play Odessa on Wednesday night at 7:05 as they look to snap their two-game losing streak.
