Bucks cap the Drillers

Houma Bayou Bucks News Release


Houma, La—Over the weekend the Bayou Bucks improved their Atlantic South division leading record to 6-1 when they traveled to Beaumont, Texas to defeat the Drillers 51-40.

Continuing their high scoring trend the Bucks found the end zone six times against Beaumont's defensive squad. On the ground for Houma running backs Jarvis Dunn and Darian Chestnut combined for 37 yards and 2 touchdowns against Beaumont's daunting defense. Through the air, Houma quarterback, Doug Coleman continued to impress. Despite a broken finger, Coleman completed 20 of 27 passes for a season high 211 yards and 4 scores. Houma native, Clint Schexnayder was on the receiving end of 6 of Coleman's passes for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Leading the charge on defense for Houma was nose guard/defensive end, Roger Green. Green recorded 7.5 tackles with one being for a loss. Similarly, Houma linebacker and former Tulane Green Wave player David Dorsey stepped up nicely for the injured Tim Betts with 7 solo tackles. The defensive secondary for Houma also provided a spark with intercepted passes by Drew Himel, Sullivan Beard, and Ahmad Harris.

Bayou Buck kicker Chris Stropolo made 3 of 4 field goals with his longest at 50 yards. Stropolo also converted on all of his extra point attempts.

When asked about his team's victory, Bucks Coach Jack Phillips went on to say, "I am extremely proud of the way we have been playing the last three games. Even with the tremendous amount of injuries we have sustained, our guys are still focused and ready to work hard."

This week the Bucks will once again travel to Lake Charles to take on the Landsharks. Lake Charles is coming off a 77-74 defeat at the hands of the Utah Warriors.

The Bayou Bucks will return to Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center on May 22, to play host the Evansville BlueCats. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster location.

Bayou Bucks Notes:

With his 4 touchdown performance against Beaumont, Doug Coleman's touchdown total for 2004 is at an outstanding 32 touchdowns and only 3 intercepted passes.

Through seven games this season the Bayou Bucks are averaging 55 points per contest.

The last time the Bayou Bucks lost a game at the Houma Terrebonne-Civic Center was June 29, 2002. That amounts to a 10 game home winning streak.

After recovering 3 turnovers last week in Beaumont, the Bucks are tied for first place in National Indoor Football League with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds with a +12 turnover margin.
