Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â Tuesday night the Laredo Bucks got a goal and two assists from forward Steve Simoes and goalie Marco Emond stopped all 19 shots he faced as the Bucks beat the Corpus Christi Rayz 4-0. The Bucks finish the season series 11-2-0 against Corpus Christi. Laredo improves to a CHL best 43-6-5 with 91 points and clinches home ice advantage throughout the Southern Conference playoffs. The Bucks are home again this Friday night against the Odessa Jackalopes. Face off set for 7:30 p.m. Call (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) for tickets or more information or go online at www.laredobucks.com.
The Bucks struck early as during a stretch of four-on-four defenseman Gabriel Proulx banged home a rebound just 1:37 into the game. It was the third of the year for Proulx. The Bucks out shot the Rayz 14-9 in the first.
In the second period the Bucks again struck early. Forward Jeff Bes teed up a shot from the top of the right circle that was stopped, but forward Chris Grenville smacked in a rebound at 1:38 to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead. It was Grenville's CHL leading 39th of the year and his CHL leading 20th goal on the man advantage.
In the third period the Rayz went on a power play chance with an opportunity to cut the lead in half, but it was the Bucks who capitalized. Simoes cut down the left side and muscled thru a hit as he spun the puck to defenseman Dion Hyman who skated in and put on a terrific move to get around Rayz goalie Craig Hillier and then fire the puck into the net for a shorthanded goal at 9:46. Hyman registered his seventh of the year as he extended the Bucks lead to 3-0. Late in the game Simoes swatted in a rebound for his 14th goal to finish the scoring at 18:10. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Corpus Christi 0.
Emond picked up his second shutout of the year as he improved to 19-3-2. Hillier played well in defeat stopping 40 of 44 shots, but took the loss to fall to 0-5-0. The Bucks were 1-6 on the power play while the Rayz went 0-5.
