Sanford Mainers News Release
SANFORD, Me. - After a dominating performance against Vermont, Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) received the NECBL Pitcher of the Week award.
The right-hander tossed a complete game shutout against the top team in the league en route to a Mainers win, 6-0. He notched five strikeouts to zero walks, allowing seven hits.
He joins three others in the league to throw a complete game. Afthim is the first to go nine innings, with the other three going seven during a doubleheader.
The Windham, Maine native has been the ace this season for the Moose and was rewarded by being named the starter for the North Division for the 2022 NECBL All-Star Game.
Afthim is 5-1 with a 1.00 ERA, the lowest in the league, with 32 strikeouts to seven walks. His 44.2 innings pitched is second in the league, behind fellow Mainer Ryan Douglas (UNC-Asheville) with 45.
Throughout the year, the All-Star has thrown a streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings and hasn't allowed a run in the last 14.2 innings.
It's the first NECBL Pitcher of the Week award for the All-Star, but he has been named to the weekly honor roll one other time.
