Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs, Moncton Wildcats, Times Transcript, and Telegraph Journal announced today the details of the Second Annual Brunswick News Rivalry Cup Challenge, which will take place throughout the upcoming 2009-10 QMJHL season.
"We were disappointed that Moncton won last year's inaugural challenge, but we have all the confidence in the world that the Rivalry Cup will make its way to Saint John this season," says Sea Dogs President Wayne Long.
The Wildcats captured the 2008-09 Rivalry Cup by virtue of their greater attendance figure in their final home game of the season versus the Sea Dogs. This year's challenge will feature a more elaborate points system, with all eight games set to be played between the Sea Dogs and Wildcats to be incorporated into determining the winning club/city. Some unique fan challenges will also be included this year. The criteria for determining this year's Brunswick News Rivalry Cup Challenge winners can be seen below:
1) Head-to-head, on-ice: Two (2) points for a regulation/overtime win, One (1) point for an overtime/shootout loss. Each team can amass a maximum of sixteen points.
2) Attendance (at all four home games): One-half (0.5) point for 70% capacity, one (1) point for 80% capacity, two (2) points for 90% capacity, three (3) points for 100% capacity. Each team can amass a maximum of twelve points.
3) Holiday Food Drive; five (5) points for city which collects the most non-perishable food items during the annual New Year's Eve/January 2 home-and-home series.
4) Mascot Challenge: Two home-and-home intermission events; one (1) point for each victory. Four points total up for grabs.
