
Bruins shut down T-Birds

Chilliwack, BC, October 17, 2007 - The Chilliwack Bruins defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 Wednesday night at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
The Bruins gave the T-Birds their first regulation time loss this season. Seattle's record is now 4-1-1-1.
Oscar Moller scored 43 seconds into the game to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Matt McCue and Matt Esposito had the assists. Moller scored a power-play goal at 14:55 of the first to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. Mark Santorelli and Nick Holden had the assists.
Michael Proudley scored 20 seconds after Moller's second goal to give Chilliwack a 3-0 lead. Colby Kulhanek had the only assist.
Seattle replaced goalie Riku Helenius with Jacob DeSerres after the Bruins third goal. Helenius made 14 saves on 17 shots and was credited with the loss, dropping his record to 4-1-1-0.
Chilliwack outshot Seattle 19-4 in the first period.
Bud Holloway put the T-Birds on the board at 7:31 of the second period. Jim O'Brien put a shot on goal from the left of the Chilliwack goal that rebounded to Sena Acolatse on the center blue line. Acolatse fed the puck to Holloway at the bottom of the right circle. Holloway came in on Bruins goalie Matt Esposito and jammed the puck past the goalie for his second goal of the year.
Chilliwack (8-3-0-0) made a 4-1 lead at 16:06 of the second when Jadon Potter scored off assists from Brandon Campos and Kevin Boutilier.
The Bruins led 36-9 in shots on goal after two periods by outshooting the T-Birds 17-5 in the second period.
Moller scored a power-play goal at 1:11of the third period to put the Bruins up 5-1. Santorelli and Kulhanek had the assists.
Jeremy Boyer scored a power-play goal at 5:17 of the third to cut the Bruins lead to three goals. Thomas Hickey brought the puck into the Chilliwack zone on the right side. He passed to the high slot to Prab Rai who put a slap shot on goal that rebounded to Jeremy Boyer in front of the Chilliwack goal. Boyer put the rebound past Esposito for his team high fifth goal of the season.
Boyer has scored a goal in the T-Birds last three games. Hickey increased his team high point streak to seven games with the assist.
Campos scored a power-play goal 9:38 of the third to give the Bruins a 6-2 lead. Hobbs and David Hoda had the assists.
Isak Quakenbush was awarded a penalty shot with just over two minutes left in the third period. Esposito made a glove save on the attempt by Quakenbush and the T-Birds were denied a third goal.
Chilliwack outshot Seattle 50-15 in the game.
DeSerres stopped 30 of 33 shots in just over two periods of action.
Esposito made 13 saves on 15 shots and his record improved to 8-3-0-0.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, October 19, against the Vancouver Giants at KeyArena at 7:35. Seattle is back on the road on Saturday, October 20, for their first game of the year against their I-5 rival the Portland Winter Hawks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
