MANCHESTER, NH – Left wing Andy Hilbert registered four points and defenseman Kevin Dallman scored the game-winning goal on the power play with 18:37 remaining in the third period as the Providence Bruins edged the Manchester Monarchs, 4-2, in Game 5 of their Atlantic Division Semifinal series on Thursday night.

Center Patrice Bergeron iced the win for Providence by scoring into an empty net with six seconds left.

The Bruins, who lead the series 3-2, can close out the Monarchs with a win in Game 6, which is set for Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Hilbert assisted on both third period goals and finished with four points (2-2=2) for the second time in the series. His 10 points (3-7=10) through five games lead all scorers in the series. Center Keith Aucoin (1-2=3) chipped in with three points and Dallman (1-1=2) finished with two points for the Bruins. The Monarchs were led by left wing Dustin Brown (2-0=2), who extended his playoff goal-scoring streak to four games with a pair of goals in the contest.

Hilbert and Aucoin shared assists on Dallman's game winner. Hilbert and center Ben Guite had the assists on Bergeron's empty netter.

Thursday's game was scoreless after one period thanks to missed opportunities from both sides.

Monarchs right wing Brad Smyth sent a long rebound over the Bruins net with five minutes remaining in the stanza. A perfect pass along the boards from right wing Tom Kostopoulos to Brown streaking down the slot led to a kick save from Bruins goalie Hannu Toivonen (29 shots, 27 saves) and the Smyth rebound chance.

Center Brad Boyes nearly gave the Bruins the lead three minutes later, but he pushed a rebound wide of the Monarchs net moments after Monarchs goalie Mathieu Garon (32 shots, 29 saves) blocked Aucoin's point blank wrist shot with 1:45 to play.

The Bruins found themselves in penalty trouble late in the period, but Brown shoved a rebound wide after Toivonen fought off a wicked one-timer from center Michael Cammalleri with seven seconds left on the first period clock and the Monarchs holding a 5-on-3 advantage.

Boyes redeemed himself 7:29 into the middle period with his first goal of the playoffs. Hilbert picked up his first point of the night with a backhanded pass through the slot to Boyes, who took the pass and then beat Garon to the right corner of the net. Aucoin had the second assist.

Aucoin's power play marker made it a 2-0 game just 2:26 later. With the Bruins holding a 5-on-3 advantage, Hilbert took Dallman's right point pass and shuffled it across the crease to Aucoin, who was waiting at the backdoor.

The Monarchs got one back when Brown charged down the slot and knifed his fourth goal of the playoffs past Toivonen at 12:19 of the period. A nifty shoulder deke from Cammalleri and an even better pass from him to Brown made the play. Right wing George Parros also assisted.

Brown tied the game at 17:30 of the period with his second goal of the game, ripped off the cross bar and in from 20-feet away. Even though the goal light went on, referee Dan O'Rourke initially waved off the goal. But after a brief consultation with the goal judge, he reversed his decision. The crowd of 5,330 responded with a thunderous ovation for Brown. Sustained pressure in the offensive zone led to Brown's series-leading fifth goal. Kostopoulos and defenseman Mike Weaver shared assists on the play.

Brown was in the penalty box for cross checking when Dallman collected the game winner early in the third period. The Monarchs took 11 minor penalties compared the Bruins six in the game.

The Bruins finished the game 2-for-9 on the power play. The Monarchs finished 0-for-4.

Toivonen (3-2) earned the win in net with 27 saves. He stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period. Garon (2-3) took the loss, his third of the series. He finished with 29 saves.
