Providence got a tie-breaking goal from Kevin Dallman, his third of the series, 1:23 into the third period, then held on for a 4-2 win over Manchester to take a 3-2 series lead last night... Andy Hilbert recorded four assists, Keith Aucoin had a goal and an assist and Hannu Toivonen made 27 saves, including 10 in the third period... Dustin Brown picked up both goals for the Monarchs, who are on the brink of a first-round exit for the fourth year in a row.
AHL All-Rookie goaltender Cam Ward made 37 saves and Bruno St. Jacques registered three assists as Lowell defeated Hartford, 3-2, in Game 5 last night, taking a 3-2 series lead... Richie Regehr recorded a goal and an assist for the Lock Monsters, who have recorded three one-goal victories in the series... Jason LaBarbera made 29 saves for Hartford, which has lost consecutive home games in regulation for the first time since Nov. 10-12.
Philadelphia can move on to the East Division final with one more win over Norfolk; Game 5 of the best-of-seven is tonight at Scope (7:30 ET)... Patrick Sharp leads the Phantoms with five assists, six points and a plus-5 rating in the series, while Jeff Carter has added three goals... Jason Morgan, who won a Calder Cup with Saint John in 2001, has two goals for the Admirals... Antero Niittymaki has recorded a 1.27 GAA in 10 playoff appearances against Norfolk over the last two seasons.
After a pair of wins on home ice to even the series, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton heads back up Interstate 81 looking to keep the momentum in Binghamton (7:05 ET)... Andy Chiodo, who played for Senators co-coach Dave Cameron at St. Michael's (OHL), has shut out the league-leading Sens offense for the last 137:15 entering Game 5... Binghamton's Charlie Stephens tops all skaters with three goals in the series... The Penguins rallied from 0-2 down to win their opening-round series in 2004 (vs. Bridgeport).
Cincinnati shook off elimination on Wednesday, but Milwaukee gets another shot at wrapping up the series in Game 6 tonight at Cincinnati Gardens (7:35 ET)... The Mighty Ducks are looking to turn the tables on Milwaukee, which successfully came back from a 3-2 series deficit in the teams' West Division semifinal last year... Cincinnati has won nine straight on home ice since a 4-3 loss to the Admirals on Mar. 25... Eighteen of the 25 goals scored in the series have come on the power play.
An overtime win in Game 4 has Manitoba on the brink of finishing off St. John's, with a 3-1 series lead entering tonight's Game 5 in Winnipeg (8:30 ET)... The teams had alternated wins over their first 11 meetings this season before the Moose made it back-to-back victories on Wednesday... Manitoba's Lee Goren has recorded four goals and an assist in the series... Since 1998, St. John's has won seven of its last 11 games when facing elimination.
