Providence Bruins News Release
Glens Falls, NY -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 4-2 Friday evening at The Glens Falls Civic Center and improved to 16-10-0-2 on the season. Niklas Svedberg posted 43 saves, notching his 12th win of the season. Jordan Caron had the game-winning goal to extend the Providence win streak to a pair and stop the Phantoms' three-game win streak.
Providence had ample opportunities to score in the first, including multiple chances right in front of Phantoms netminder Cal Heeter. Zach Trotman wristed the puck from just inside the blue line to the slot, where Justin Florek deflected it home. The only Adirondack penalty of the period expired 12 seconds before Florek's bid, while Providence kept the puck in the offensive zone the whole time.
Glens Falls native Christian Hanson made a great play right in front, feeding Lane MacDermid in a two on one to give Providence a 2-0 lead in the second.
At the 9:21 mark of the second, Brayden Schenn created a breakaway on a turnover outside the offensive zone and beat Svedberg top shelf, cutting the deficit in half.
However, just 25 seconds later, Caron buried a far circle shot to give Providence its second two-goal advantage of the game.
The Phantoms had many great opportunities in the third, including a few extended volleys right in front of Svedberg. It appeared that they had cut the deficit to one, but the goal was called off because of a delayed penalty on Hanson. The Phantoms finally capitalized to bring the score to 3-2 when they scored on the power play at 10:53 of the third.
However, at 19:21 of the third Bourque sealed the win with an empty net goal. Glens Falls native Hanson tallied his second assist of the night and Matt Bartkowski recorded the secondary assist.
The Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday, January 4 for a matchup with the Portland Pirates for Koozie Night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Koozie courtesy of giveaway courtesy of Uncle Bob's Self Storage .
