Brown, Hefney And Johnson Named CFL Defensive All-Stars

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive tackle Doug Brown, cornerback Jovon Johnson and halfback Jonathan Hefney were selected to the Canadian Football League's 2009 defensive all-star team Wednesday.

Brown, a nine-year Blue Bombers veteran out of Simon Fraser University, earns his sixth league all-star selection (fourth consecutive) after another solid season that saw him play all 18 games. He finished the 2009 campaign with 52 tackles, six quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery.

Jovon Johnson earns his first league all-star selection after a stellar season on the corner for the Blue and Gold. He wrapped up his second campaign in Winnipeg with 75 tackles, one special teams tackle and six interceptions - returning one 73 yards for a touchdown (Aug. 21 @ B.C.).

Rookie Jonathan Hefney's season opened some eyes as he was selected to league all-star for his play at halfback. The rookie out of the University of Tennessee started all 18 games this season for the Blue Bombers, amassing 66 defensive tackles, four interceptions and five special teams tackles in his first CFL campaign. He is also the East Divison nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie.

The all-stars were selected by 55 voting members, including representation from the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches, and fans from across the country. Fans were given the opportunity to have their voice heard through the CFL.ca All-Star Balloting Program where nearly half of a million player votes were cast. The FRC voting panel consists of representation from each CFL market and a national chapter.
