Broncos Score Early and Often to Beat WhiteWings

Harlingen - The Laredo Broncos scored in each of the first four innings en route to a 10-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Monday at Harlingen Field.

Jason Diaz led off the top of the first with a single against David Cross (1-4). A groundout moved Diaz to second, he stole third and scored on a groundout by Carlos Arroyo to make it 1-0 Broncos (13-19).

Former-WhiteWing David Fowler hit a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the second to make it 4-0.

Ben Wolgamot led off the top of the third with a four-pitch walk, stole second and moved to third on a single by Arroyo. Kenneth Gilbert hit an RBI-double. One out later, D.J. Dixon was intentionally walked to load the bases and Luany Sanchez grounded into an RBI-fielder's choice to make it 6-0.

A one-out RBI-single by Arroyo and two-out RBI-singles by Nick Mahin and Dixon in the top of the fourth made it 9-0.

The WhiteWings (14-18) got on the board against former-WhiteWing Juan Peralta (2-1) in the bottom of the sixth when Salvador Paniagua hit his league-lead tying ninth home run of the season to make it 9-1.

Javis Diaz drew a one-out walk, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a single by Yeurys Tejeda to knock out Peralta with the score 9-2.

Peralta struck out eight while walking six and allowing five hits in six and two-thirds innings in his return to Harlingen Field.

Cross allowed one more run after surrendering a leadoff walk to Wolgamot, who later scored on a sacrifice fly, in the top of the eighth. Roberto Rodriguez finished the game to save the bullpen.

Arlon Quiroz led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple against Matt Gibbs and scored on a one-out error to complete the scoring.

The WhiteWings and Broncos complete this four-game series with a day-night double-header on Tuesday. Game one will start at 10:35 a.m., with gates opening at 9:35, and game two will start at 7:05 p.m., with gates opening at 6:05. Game one was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday morning but was moved due to the threat of Tropical Storm Alex. Tickets from Wednesday's game will be honored for that game. Game two is Twofer Tuesday, presented by RC Cola, when fans will be able to purchase two tickets, hot dogs, chips and/or sodas for the price of one, in addition to half-price beers.
