San Angelo Colts News Release
For the second consecutive night the Colts would win in extra frames. After winning at home in 10 innings Saturday night, the Colts would take the much easier route traveling eight hours to Edinburg to win in 12 innings on Sunday night. The Colts would win game one of a four game series against the front running Roadrunners 4-3.
The Colts went down early 2-0 on RBI singles by both Robert Matlock and Osiel Flores. San Angelo though would tie it up in the top of the fifth inning. After Trey Carter singled, Butch Ballez reached on an error, and Bradley Goldsmith laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt advancing both runners. Mark Ramos then walked to load the bases. Ronnie Gaines hit a ball to deep left center field for a sacrifice fly and Jason Crosland hit a line drive single to left to drive in the second run which knotted the game at 2-2. The Colts would take the first lead of the game on a solo homerun by Ronnie Gaines (6) to make the score 3-2.
Edinburg would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a throwing error by Colts third baseman Landon Camp. The Colts limited the damage to only one run however and the score stayed tied at 3-3 until the 12th inning. Mark Ramos led off the inning with a single up the middle, Ronnie Gaines and Jason Crosland had back to back walks which brought up Adam Hale. Hale laced a single to right field scoring Ramos that gave the Colts the lead for good at 4-3. Rey Silva would get Josh Collazo to ground out to third on a fielder's choice and get Landon Camp to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to limit the damage to only one run.
Chase Vacek came in to close out the game for the Colts and he sat down the Roadrunners in order to earn his first save of the 2010 season. Ezequiel Astacio was brilliant as he went seven innings, allowing three runs, seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision. The Colts bullpen was dominate as Gorman Romero, who picked up the win, along with Matt Chutchian and Chase Vacek combined for five innings, and allowed just one hit, a walk and strikeout one as the Colts win 4-3.
Monday San Angelo sends out righty Brian Henschel (2-2, 4.89) in game two of this four game series against Edinburg's ace right-hander Wardell Starling (5-0, 2.28). It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch at 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
