Swift Current Broncos News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (0-4-0-0) have found themselves in four hard-fought games to start the 20-21 season, but haven't been able to get over the hump to get their first win. They're hoping a familiar foe will push them over that ledge when they face off against the Moose Jaw Warriors (3-1-0-0) Saturday afternoon.
Two quick goals by the Brandon Wheat Kings on Thursday night sunk the Broncos as they couldn't overcome the deficit in a 4-1 loss. The Wheat Kings scored twice in 14 seconds in the opening period, and while the Broncos pushed back for the remainder of the first, pulling to within one late, they couldn't find another goal in the loss.
Isaac Poulter delivered a strong performance in net turning aside 35 of 38 shots in the loss. The Broncos power play connected for the second game in a row, but also gave up a shorthanded goal that served as the insurance marker for the Wheat Kings.
The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 start to the Hub season, but dropped their first game of the year on Thursday afternoon, 5-2 against the Winnipeg ICE.
Moose Jaw has had a balanced scoring attack through four games, with 2021 NHL draft prospects Eric Alarie and Ryder Korczak each with five points to lead the team. Two more players are next with four points, including 2005-born Brayden Yager who was selected with the third overall pick in the 2020 WHL Draft.
The Broncos picked up two wins in six games against the Warriors in the season series last year.
Saturday's game will feature a tribute to the late Colby Cave before puck drop.
The pre-game show on Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starts at 3:30.
