Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen welcomed the Swift Current Broncos to the Scotiabank Saddledome tonight for the first time this season.
Calgary was unable to hold on to the lead on three separate occasions in a 6-5 loss to the visitors. Chase Valliant and Carter Yakemchuk netted Calgary's first two goals giving them an early lead. Swift Current's Van Edger would score shorthanded in the last 30 seconds of the period to cut the lead in half. Caleb Wyrostok scored back-to-back goals in the second to give the Swift Current their first lead of the game. Calgary would have an answer, with Keets Fawcett and Oliver Tulk scoring less than three minutes apart to retake the lead heading into the final frame. Tulk now sits with a team leading 17 goals, reaching 50 goal mark in his WHL career.
Ryan Mcleary tied the game for Swift Current once again at the 7:53 mark of the third. A tip from London Hoilett would give Calgary back the lead for the third time, but Swift Current pushed back with Grayson Burzynski and Brady Birnie scoring two more to make the final 6-5.
Shots finished 42-39 in favour of Swift Current. Carter Yakemchuk earned second star with a goal and two assists. With tonight's game, the defenceman has reached the milestone of 150 career games.
Calgary departs tomorrow for a pair of road games in Saskatchewan with stops in Prince Albert on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saskatoon on Sunday, Dec. 10. Friday's game is a 6:00 p.m. M.T. start with Sunday's an early 3:00 p.m. M.T. puck drop. Calgary will then return home to host Red Deer on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Saddledome.
