Swift Current Broncos News Release
Calgary, Alta. - Another high scoring, and back and forth game for the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night as they defeated the Calgary Hitmen 6-5 at the Saddledome.
It didn't start ideally for the Broncos, giving up the first two goals of the hockey game as Chase Valliant and Carter Yakemchuk got the Hitmen on the board.
The Broncos would score the next three goals as Van Eger notched a shorthanded goal with less than 30 seconds to play in the first. Caleb Wyrostok followed that up with a pair of goals just 30 seconds, and 7:58 into the second period respectively to give the Broncos their first lead of the night.
The game continued its seesaw trend as Keets Fawcett and Oliver Tulk scored before the end of the second period to restore the Hitmen lead after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the excitement for those in attendance continued as Ryan McCleary tied the game about eight minutes into the third. Although Calgary took one more lead thanks to London Hoilett just a few minutes later.
The Broncos outshot the Hitmen 21-9 in the period, with partial credit coming to the powerplay which capitalized on their sixth powerplay of the hockey game as Grayson Burzynski scored his second of the season. With a tie game, things went down to the wire in regulation as with barely a minute to play in the third, Rylan Gould circled the zone and tried a wraparound, which was eventually banged home by Brady Birnie.
The goal capped off a game that progressively got better for the Broncos where Gould led the way with four assists. Joey Rocha stopped 34 of 39 for the victory as well.
The Broncos are back in action on Friday against Lethbridge.
