Swift Current Broncos News Release

SWIFT CURRENT, SK - The A three-goal first period by the Moose Jaw Warriors (12-28-2-0) proved too big a hill for the Swift Current Broncos (9-32-1-3) to climb in a 5-2 loss Friday night.

The Warriors opened the scoring on a goal mouth scramble 6:44 into the game as Martin Lang found a loose puck and slid it over the goal line.

Moose Jaw captain Owen Hardy added to the lead five minutes later, firing a one timer off the post and in off a centring feed from below the goal line to make it 2-0.

Cayde Agustine capped off the first-period scoring as the trailer on an odd man rush, beating Poulter under the glove to make it 3-0.

The Broncos nearly cut into the lead late in the first as D-Jay Jerome appeared to have an open net, but defenceman Braden Miller stuck out a leg to make a road hockey save and keep the Warriors lead at 3-0 heading into the intermission.

The Broncos killed off a lengthy five-on-three power play early in the second and would eventually get on the scoreboard.

Matthew Benson took a pass from Cohner Saleski on the rush and his backhander hit the stick of a Warriors defenceman and fooled Boston Bilous to make it 3-1 9:44 into the second.

Moose Jaw would regain their lead near the end of the first as Jagger Firkus tipped in his first career WHL goal off a point shot with four minutes remaining.

Atley Calvert added his first career goal with a bank shot, coming with just 44 seconds left in the period as the Broncos were down 5-1 heading into the third.

Sergei Alkhimov was robbed by Bilous early in the first as the Warriors goaltender dove to his left and smothered a shot from the right circle.

Moose Jaw had a parade to the penalty box in the third, taking four straight penalties before the Broncos capitalized on the last one. Kaleb Bulych leaned into a one timer from the left point that sailed over the glove of Bilous for his first of the year with 55 seconds left.

The Broncos look for a better result tomorrow night when the two teams meet again in Moose Jaw.

Announced attendance was 1,949.
