Broncos Blow Away WhiteWings

Laredo, TX - The Harlingen WhiteWings (2-3) scored first but gave up five in the third and four in the fourth as the Laredo Broncos (2-3) won 12-1 tonight at Veterans Field.

The WhiteWings scored right away again as Andy Schon (1-0) issued a four-pitch walk to Bub Bergstrom to start the game. Three batters later, former-Bronco Brian Nichols hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0.

The Broncos came alive against Kenny Evoniuk (0-1) in the third, scoring five runs (two earned) on two hits, two walks and two errors. Ivan Reyes reached on an error. One out later, Anthony Bennett drew a four-pitch walk. Dwayne White followed with a three-run home run, his first. Matt Lawman worked a 14-pitch walk and Luany Sanchez reached on an error. Edgard Clemente singled to load the bases and Jose Salas drew a walk. A wild pitch allowed Sanchez to score to make it 5-1.

In the fourth, Bennett hit a one-out single and White walked. Lawman and Sanchez followed with RBI-singles, the latter of which came off reliever Dan Ziegler. Clemente then hit a sacrifice fly and Salas hit an RBI-single to cap the inning at 9-1 Broncos.

In the sixth, Lawman led off with an infield single. Sanchez and Clemente hit back-to-back doubles to make it 11-1.

Schon did the rest, going six innings, allowing one run one on six hits while walking three and striking out eight.

Joshua Morrison added a solo home run against Chris Street in the eighth to complete the scoring.

The WhiteWings will be back in action tomorrow night at Laredo at 7:35 p.m. The WhiteWings will send right-hander Joey Cress (0-0) to the mound against Broncos right-hander Santo Hernandez (0-0).
