
Broncos bust out their bats in win against Harlingen

LAREDO, TX - The Laredo Broncos scored their highest run total of the young 2008 season beating the Harlingen White Wings 11-1 at Veterans Field on Friday night in front of a crowd of 1216. The Broncos play the finale of the 3 game series against the Harlingen White Wings on Sunday night. For more info call (956)-722-BASE (2273).
For the 2nd straight game Harlingen struck first scoring a run in the first inning. Bub Bergstrom led off with a walk. Then with one out Miguel Peguero singled putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Then after a strikeout Brian Nichols singled in Bergstrom making the score 1-0.
The Broncos would get to White Wings starter Kenneth Evoniuk in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Ivan Reyes led off reaching base on an error. With one away Anthony Bennett walked and then Dwayne White hit a 3 run home run to give the Broncos their first lead in a game since opening night. Laredo was not done in the inning as after the home run Matt Lawman walked. Luany Sanchez followed with a ground ball that was booted by Harlingen's 2nd baseman Terry Roblez allowing all runners to be safe. Then Edgard Clemente singled to load the bases and Jose Salas followed with a walk to force in Lawman. Sanchez would later score on a wild pitch to make the score 5-1 after 3 innings.
Laredo would tack on 4 more runs in the 4th inning. With one out Bennett singled followed by a walk to Dwayne White. Then Matt Lawman singled scoring Bennett from 2nd base and on a throwing error by Harlingen's Bub Bergstrom allowed White to go to third and Lawman to 2nd. Luany Sanchez would drive in another run with a single chasing the starter Evoniuk. Edgard Clemente would hit a sacrifice fly against reliever Dan Ziegler. With Sanchez on 2nd base Jose Salas would knock him in with an rbi single making the score 9-1 Broncos after 4.
The Broncos would strike again in the bottom of the 6th inning. Matt Lawman led off the inning with a single and went to third on Luany Sanchez's Double. Edgard Clemente then followed with a double knocking in the 2 runs making the score 11-1.
Andy Schon out pitched his counterpart of the White Wings Kenneth Evoniuk. Evoniuk went 3 1/3 giving up 8 runs 5 of which were earned on 4 hits. He walked 5 and struck out 3. Schon pitched a great 6 innings mixing up his pitches. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits and struck out 8 batters.
Laredo's bullpen then took as Rusty Jones and Matt Bauman held the White Wings scoreless in the 7th and 8th innings.
The Broncos would tack on one more run in the bottom of the 8th as Josh Morrison hit his first home run of the season giving the Broncos a 12-1 lead.
David Watkins pitched a perfect 9th inning to give the Broncos their 2nd win of the season by a score of 12-1.
Laredo looks to win their first series of 2008 season tomorrow night at 7:30 as they play the rubber game of their 3 game set against Harlingen at Veteran's Field.
