New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - A back and forth ballgame was won by the Brockton Rox, 5-4, over the New Jersey Jackals, as they clinched the North Division Championship in the second half of the 2005 season.
After a scoreless first, the ballgame got a bit interesting in the bottom of the second. Jackals' starter Josh Brey did not come out for his second inning of work, and Horace Lawrence was inserted in the ballgame as relief. To Lawrence's dismay, the first pitch he threw was hammered out of the ballpark by Eddie Gerald to put the Rox on the scoreboard.
But in the top of the third, it would be the Jackals getting into the action. With two outs, Benji Gil extended the inning with a double, and the next batter Elvis Corporan blasted a two-run homerun to put the Jackals ahead.
In the bottom of the fourth and fifth, the Rox would surge back to take the lead. Hector Henriquez tied the score when he reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth, plating Willie King. And in the fifth, an RBI single by King put the Rox back in the lead at 3-2.
But the see-saw ballgame continued in Brockton in the top of the sixth, when the ballgame was tied once again. Francisco Lebron hit a solo homerun, his 15th of the season, to make it a 3-3 score.
And in the seventh, the Rox would brake the deadlock, forging ahead 4-3 on a sacrifice fly for an RBI off the bat of Eddie Gerald. Brockton added another run in the bottom of the eighth when Jackals' reliever Fabricio Benites walked Brad Rosenblat with the bases loaded.
The Jackals made it close in the top of the ninth, as Jake Whitesides doubled home Matt Hagen, bringing them within one, but they'd get no closer.
Starter Josh Brey lasted only one inning for the Jackals due to injury. The loss went to reliever Shawn Morgan in 3.1 innings pitched. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on three hits.
Eddie Aucoin earned the win in relief, for the Rox, in 2.1 innings pitched, while allowing one earned run on two hits.
