North Shore Spirit News Release
The North Shore Spirit extended their winning streak to four games Saturday night with a 5-1 win over the Grays at Fraser Field.
Closer Alex Herrera (5-2) was given the spot start and was dominant. Herrera tossed 6 1/3, allowing only one run on six hits. Grays starter Tony Pierce (3-7) took the loss.
North Shore opened the scoring in the third. After Marcos Agramonte walked, Garrett Weir singled, putting runners on the corners with one out. Rob Fischer then connected for his 17th homerun of the season, a three run shot to left center.
The Spirit added to their lead in the fifth. A botched run-down allowed Rob Fischer to score all the way from second and give North Shore a commanding five run advantage.
Josh Tranum hit a solo shot in the sixth to push the Spirit lead to 6-0.
The Grays broke up Herrera's shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh. Larry Best leadoff with a walk and moved to third on a one out single by Alex Garcia. Scott Grimes then picked up his 13th RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly to left.
A crowd of 2,441 watched as North Shore ran their second half record to 26-17.
The Spirit and the Grays will play the final game of their weekend series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm.
