Brockton rocks Kelly, Spirit, 11-6

Brockton Rox News Release
For one game at least, the second half of the 2005 Brockton season looked quite different from the first, as the Rox (1-0) pounded North Shore (0-1), 11-6, at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA.
In the last two games of a disappointing 21-25 first half, Brockton was outscored by New Jersey, 27-5. Just two days later, however, the Rox turned things around against their divisional rival.
Facing North Shore starter John Kelly, the Can-Am League leader in wins and strikeouts, Brockton lead-off hitter Matt Cucurullo set the tone for the game by pulling Kelly's first pitch over the rightfield wall for a 1-0 lead. It was Cucurullo's first career home run in his 48th professional game.
The next five Rox hitters all reached base, including a bases-loaded walk drawn by Brian Jones and a two-run single by Kris Zacuto that made the score 4-0.
North Shore struck back in the bottom of the third off of Dennis Boyd. Yuri Sanchez singled with one out and advanced to second on an error. Marcos Agramonte followed with a double to score Sanchez, and then Rob Fischer slammed a two-run homer to bring the Spirit within a run at 4-3.
But on this night it was the Rox offense taking control, with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. After the home team responded with another three-run rally in the bottom of the frame, with a solo home run by Brian Macchi serving as the catalyst, the Rox rebuilt their lead with one in the eighth and a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.
Jones and Zacuto led the relentless Brockton attack with three RBI apiece, but they had a great deal of help. The #2 through #6 hitters in the Rox lineup combined to go 10-21 with seven runs scored.
Boyd (2-2) earned the win for the Rox, allowing five runs on six hits in 6.1 innings. Kelly (6-3) took the loss, going the same 6.1 inning distance while surrendering ten hits and eight runs.
The two teams play again on Saturday at 5:05, Kevin Beavers (1-3, 4.45) for the Rox against All-Star Ryan Bicondoa (4-3, 2.41) of the Spirit.
