New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals had a 6-1 lead entering the eighth inning, only to watch it evaporate to the Cutters, as New Haven rallied to defeat them 7-6.
New Haven started the second half off in style. Leadoff man Keto Anderson homered in the bottom of the first, putting the Cutters on top early.
But New Jersey's offense kicked in during the top of the third. The Jackals scored five runs, including a bases loaded triple by Joe Jiannetti, and an RBI double by Darren Ciraco. They would add another run in the top of seventh on a sacrifice fly by Elvis Corporan.
It wasn't until the Jackals bullpen entered the game that New Haven finally made their comeback. They tallied four runs in the bottom of the eighth, bringing the Cutters within one entering the ninth.
And in the ninth, the Cutters completed the comeback. With the bases loaded and one out, Bill Peavy singled scoring both the tying and winning run off Jackal reliever Fabricio Benitez.
The win went to Willy Espinal of New Haven in one inning in relief. Fabricio Benitez was the loser for the Jackals. Starter Aaron Myers received a tough no decision in seven innings of work, fanning nine, walking two, and allowing only one run on two hits. He allowed only one hit after the first inning.
