Brockton Rox News Release

August 9, 2005 - Brad Rosenblat flagged down Goef Tomlinson's long drive into the gap with the tying and winning runs on base to preserve a 6-5 victory for the Brockton Rox (17-5) over the host Quebec Capitales (13-8) in the opener of a crucial three-game series.

With the victory, first place Brockton expanded their lead in the Can-Am League North Division to 3.5 games over both Quebec and the North Shore Spirit (who lost to New Haven County, 5-2).

Eddie Gerald's two-run homer in the third inning gave the Rox the first of three different one-run leads over les Capitales, who continually closed the gap but could not get over the hump.

Quebec stranded the potential tying run on base in each of the last four innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Brockton closer Joey Cole struck out Bill Greenwell and Lee Delfino to start the frame, but then issued a walk to lead-off hitter Benoit Emond. Danny Scalabrini singled to centerfield, pushing Emond to second and bringing Tomlinson to the plate.

Rox third baseman Jake Daubert singled in the fifth inning to extend his league-record hitting streak to 26 games.

Brockton starter Grant Dorn (4-1) allowed eight hits and five runs over 7.2 innings to earn the victory. Quebec's Julien Tucker (5-4) gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings to suffer the loss, his second to the Rox in two starts.

The two teams play an 11:35 matinee on Wednesday, Jon Koch (4-3, 3.34) for Brockton against Danny Prata (3-0, 3.86) of les Capitales.
