Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Brockton, MA -- Brockton starter Wayne Lundgren was terrific and the Rox bats came to life en route to a 10-5 victory over Worcester at Campanelli Stadium on Saturday night.

The Brockton scoring started early and often as they plated runs in each of the first four innings. Josh Vander Hey gave the Rox a 3-0 advantage in the second after he blasted his fourth homer of the season with a man on and two outs. Brockton added three more in the third inning on a 3-run shot by Jason Colson, his second long ball of the year. Jud Thigpen added two more to the Brockton total in the fourth with his 2-run double and the Rox held an 8-0 lead after four complete. The Rox tacked on a single run in the sixth, while the Tornadoes broke through in the seventh via a run-scoring single by Mike MacMillan, one of his three hits on the evening. Worcester did show some life with 4-run rally in the eighth, capped by a bases clearing, 3-run double by Chuck Jeroloman, but it was too little too late for the Tornadoes.

Rox starter Wayne Lundgren (3-2) lasted seven strong innings only surrendering one run on five hits while striking out four and walking nobody. On the contrary, Worcester righty Shaun McNamara (2-4) was only able to last three-plus innings giving up eight runs on eight hits. Justin Edwards relieved McNamara in the fourth and did not give up a run in two full innings. Chris Colabello reached base twice for the Tornadoes before having to leave the game in the sixth after being hit by a pitch in the shoulder. Francisco Caraballo scored two runs after reaching base twice on a double and a walk. Worcester will look to get back on the right track as they take on the Rox again on Sunday night. It will be righty Matt Weagle on the mound for Worcester against Brockton righthander Steve Delabar. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.

The Tornadoes return home on Thursday, July 10 to conclude the first half with a three-game series against the Nashua Pride. Thursday, June 10 will be a doubleheader starting at 6:05pm. Friday, July 11 will be the Tornadoes' third postgame fireworks show of the year. The series and first half concludes on Saturday, July 12, which will be "Going Green Night," sponsored by Waste Management and Sony.
