Bristol State Liners News Release

The Bristol Pirates professional baseball team continues to offer low-cost entertainment for persons of all ages in the Twin Cities.

To celebrate this fact the Pirates will welcome one of their young fans and one of their most senior to the pitcher's mound to throw out ceremonial first pitches.

The week will conclude with another young fan attempting to enter the Guinness World Record book with her attempt to establish a new record for the most consecutive back handsprings.

On Sunday, August 10, 10-year old Corey Conzett of Bristol will throw out the first pitch before the Pirates host the Elizabethton Twins. Conzett was recently nominated as a Baseball Youth All-American. The first pitch will take place at approximately 5:45 p.m.

The next evening, August 11, 102-year old Dorothy Elkins of Scott County will take to the field to fire in the ceremonial first pitch, at approximately 6:45 p.m. Elkins is a long-time fan of the sport, and will become the oldest person to throw out a first pitch in Appalachian League history. The Pirates' game against the visiting Elizabethton Twins will begin at 7 p.m.

Finally, on Saturday, August 16, Bristol gymnast and Tennessee High School senior Kayla Duncan will take the field before the game to attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the most consecutive back handsprings. Duncan's attempt to break the current record of 53 will begin at approximately 6:15 p.m., before the Pirates host the Pulaski Mariners at 7 p.m. Tennessee High School students are offered half-price admission to come and support their classmate if they wear a THS t-shirt to the game.

"Bristol Baseball, Inc., the operator of the Bristol Pirates, is delighted to offer these opportunities," Pirates General Manager Mahlon Luttrell noted. "Our ability to highlight our fans of all ages is a reminder of the opportunities for entertainment that we offer all members of our community of all ages, including young couples, singles and retirees."

The Bristol Pirates are the Advanced Rookie affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. For more information on the Pirates and professional baseball in Bristol, visit www.BristolPiratesBaseball.com.
