Bristol Pirates continue pennant push

August 25, 2015 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Bristol State Liners News Release

With the Bristol Pirates in search of their first-ever appearance in the Appalachian League playoffs, Bristol Baseball, Inc. (BBI), the all-volunteer non-profit organization which operates the Pirates, announced several promotions for the team's final home series later this week.

The Pirates will host the Pulaski Yankees each evening from Wednesday, August 26 through Saturday, August 29. Both teams are in playoff contention, with the Yankees now 5 games ahead of the pack in the League's Eastern Division, and the Pirates only 2.5 games back from a playoff spot in the League's Western Division.

The two teams begin their series on Pepsi Night at the ballpark, with the first 100 children in the ballpark receiving a free backpack, courtesy of Pepsi that night. The gates will open at 6:00 pm for that evening's 7:00 pm contest.

The gates will open at the same time for Thursday's 7:00 pm contest, with Blood Assurance operating a bloodmobile outside the gates as fans enter.

"This has been a great season, with the team already collecting the most wins by a Bristol-based team since 2010," commented Pirates' General Manager and BBI President Mahlon Luttrell. "We're looking forward to a strong finish at home this week, with plenty of events for the whole family."

Friday evening's game will begin early, with the gates opening at 5:00 pm for a 5:30 first pitch. Representatives from the Virginia State Parks will greet and entertain fans, and local scouts will have the chance to camp out under the stars in the outfield following the game. Scouts will be admitted to the game for free only if in uniform and accompanied by their leader. Also following the game, local Gold Ship Records recording artist Mark Webb will perform.

The Pirates' regular season home schedule will conclude Saturday with Fan Appreciation Night. All fans will be admitted free, courtesy of BBI, with the gates opening at 6:00 pm for the 7:00 start. Prior to the start of the game, the Pirates will host a regional meeting of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) at the ballpark pavilion, which fans are welcome to attend. SABR will offer some prizes for attendees, and BBI will conduct drawings for numerous prizes throughout the evening.

"We want to encourage fans to come out and cheer on our first-ever Appalachian League Player of the Year, Carlos Munoz, and the rest of the team," added Luttrell. "Whether you've been at every game this season, or haven't been able to make it out, come and join us for this final homestand."
