Brigade Strike Gold in Dispersal Draft
October 26, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Kansas City Brigade News Release
The Kansas City Brigade selected two players today in the Arena Football League's 2008 Dispersal Draft. Team co-owner Neil Smith was brimming with pride and congratulating the team's executive staff and coaching staff on their scouting efforts.
First selected was defensive back Monty Montgomery who is widely considered one of the AFL's premiere defensive specialists who is a game-changing ball-hawk who has to be accounted for every time he is on the field. Montgomery is an excellent cover man who is a striker in the running game and is always around the ball. He has a knack for making the big play, and adds arena football experience to a distinguished NFL career. Registered 79.5 total tackles which was good for 12th in the AFL, nine interceptions which was good for fourth in the AFL and 16 defensive pass breakups good for sixth in the AFL....all of which being team highs. In 2006 he started all 12 of the games he played in for the Nashville Kats and was named ADT Defensive Player of the Game six times during the year. His NFL experience was with the New Orleans Saints in 2004, and in college he was a 4 year letterman with the University of Houston.
Selected second was quarterback Matt Kohn, a strong armed signal caller known for strong leadership qualities. He unfortunately started 2007 on the disabled list with the Nashville Kats, but played later in the season in spot duty with success. He has played in the United Indoor Professional Football League (UIFL) for the Ohio Valley Greyhounds where he was named the (UIFL) Offensive Player of the Year for 2006. Kohn attended the University of Indianapolis where he holds several records, most notably, career leader in passing yards and completions. He was an Academic All-Conference selection every season of his collegiate career.
