Kansas City Brigade News Release

Kansas City, Mo. (Nov. 14) - In the inaugural season of the Brigade, the entire organization-players, dancers and staff-joined Habitat for Humanity KC to help build two homes. Now the Brigade Girls want to take on the challenge alone and continue the organization's mission to impact every part of the Kansas City metro area community. The squad will work at two sites near 34th and Forest on Thursday, Nov. 16 and Friday, Nov. 17.

The Brigade Girls will be joined by Betty Lennox of the WNBA's Seattle Storm, who claims Kansas City as her hometown. She is participating in an unpaid internship with Habitat through a WNBA program. A seven-year veteran out of women's basketball powerhouse Louisiana Tech, Lennox was the 2004 Finals MVP as the Storm won the WNBA title and the 2000 Rookie of the Year.

"I believe the squad has a responsibility to reach out on its own and be a benefit to the community," Brigade Girls director Gretchen Bretz said. "We're excited to be able to continue the team's relationship with Habitat and work with a pro athlete of Betty's caliber."

The 32 members of the Brigade Girls are college students and professionals of all ages and levels of dance experience. They regularly appear throughout Kansas City for performances and at team events. The Brigade Girls participate in a number of their own community service projects during the year.
