Storm sign former Buccaneer WR Karl Williams

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free agent wide receiver Karl Williams today, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced.

Williams, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver and prolific return man from Texas A&M - Kingsville, is a nine-year veteran of the National Football League and will make his Arena Football League debut with the Storm. He played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2003 and with the Arizona Cardinals in 2004.

During his rookie season with the Buccaneers he set team season records for highest punt return average (21.1), kickoff return average (27.6) and longest punt return (88 yards). Williams was named both the National Football Conference Special Teams Rookie of the Month and NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December of 1996.

Williams followed up his rookie season by earning All-NFC honors at the punt return position as named by the Football News. In 1997 he set a Buccaneers record for most punt return yards in a season with 597 on 46 attempts with one touchdown. He also had his most productive season as a wide receiver with 33 receptions for 486 yards and four touchdowns.

During his time with the Buccaneers he set team records for career punt return yards with 2,279, career punt returns for touchdowns with five and most punt return yards in a game with 120 yards against Cleveland on October 13, 2002.

He was named NFC Player of the Week four times, Week 17 in 1996, Weeks 10 and 17 in 1997, and Week 13 in 2000. He has seven of the 10 longest punt returns in Buccaneer history and is second in team history for punt returns with 213, eight behind Danny Reece.

In his NFL career he totaled 155 receptions for 1,897 yards and seven touchdowns. He returned 56 kickoffs for 1,245 yards and made 255 punt returns for 2,565 yards and five touchdowns.
