Brigade controls its playoff destiny with Colorado Crush loss

June 5, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Kansas City Brigade News Release

KANSAS CITY - Winners of four of its last five games, the Brigade are now in the very enviable position of controlling its own destiny for the postseason. The Colorado Crush lost to the Utah Blaze last night, knocking the Crush out of second place in the Central Division. The Brigade (8-5) now owns a half-game lead over the Crush (8-6) for second place and the third seed in the American Conference.

More importantly, the Brigade is right on the heels of the defending ArenaBowl champion Chicago Rush (9-4), whom the Brigade beat 54-41 in the season opener. With that tiebreaker in hand, the Brigade travels to Chicago for season finale on June 23 in what could be a division title game. It could also decide who gets the second seed in the conference, earning a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The remaining schedule certainly favors the Brigade as the team plays at the Columbus Destroyers (6-7), home against the Nashville Kats (5-8), and then at the Rush. Chicago plays at home against the Grand Rapids Rampage (4-8) and then at Colorado before returning home for the Brigade. The Crush is certainly not out of the division race at this point, but the team has just two games remaining, both at home: Chicago and the Dallas Desperados (12-1).
