July 29, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today that Dustin Quattrocchi, Ryan Brenner, and Joey Wendle have all broken franchise records in appearances, stolen bases and total bases, respectively.

Quattrocchi, a left-handed junior from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, entered the game in the top of the seventh against the Morehead City Marlins on July 26th. He pitched two-thirds of an inning in the victory. The appearance marked the 32nd time Quattrocchi has made the run from the bullpen to the mound for the Steamers in 2011, which also leads the CPL. The previous mark of 31 appearances was held by Daniel Hall, from Campbell University, in 1999.

Brenner, a junior from Miami University of Ohio, was inserted into the July 26th game in the bottom of the eighth inning as a pinch runner after a leadoff double put the go-ahead run on second base for the Steamers. Brenner proceeded to steal third base, which tied the franchise record of 30. A batter later, Brenner broke for home and slid in safely under the throw to steal his 31st base of the season in remarkable fashion. The run gave the Steamers a 9-8 lead in the game against the Marlins. Brenner is currently second in the CPL in stolen bases behind Brock Hebert of Thomasville, who has swiped 34 bags. Kevin Reynolds from Quincy University set the Steamer franchise record at 30 stolen bases in 2005 and Kevin Mattison, from University of North Carolina-Asheville (recently a 2011 Jacksonville Suns AA Southern League All-Star in the Florida Marlins system), tied it in 2007.

Wendle, a junior out of West Chester University (PA), set a new franchise record in total bases with his 102nd base of the season. Wendle earned the base by hitting a single in the top of the second inning on July 23rd against the Wilson Tobs. The previous total bases record was held by Jake Magner, from the University of North Dakota, in 2009. Wendle has already broken the Steamer franchise record and CPL record for hits in a single season.
