Forest City Owls News Release

GASTONIA, N.C. - Michael Heesch threw a complete game as the Gastonia Grizzlies defeated the Forest City Owls, 4-1, Friday night at Sims Legion Field. The Owls fall to 13-11 in the second half and 29-22 overall, while the Grizzlies improve to 13-11 in the second half and 26-25 overall.

Forest City sent ace right-hander Seth Cutler-Voltz (Virginia Commonwealth) to the mound. Cutler-Voltz threw six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits, recording three strikeouts and three walks. Heesch, who allowed one run on four hits, earned his sixth win of the summer, while Cutler-Voltz took his third loss of the season.

The Grizzlies scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Gastonia struck first on Benji Jackson's (Gardner-Webb) sacrifice fly to right field, which plated Grant Gajdosz (UNC Asheville). Later on, Joe Ramrez (Lee) would cross the plate on a wild pitch. A couple at-bats later, Dan Hennigan (Franklin Pierce) poked a single into right field. Owls RF Justin Britt's (Southeastern CC) throw soared over the diamond and came to a halt near the Forest City dugout, allowing Jordan Lurie (UNC Asheville) to score.

Dylan Nasiatka blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to juice Gastonia's lead to 4-0. The Owls got a token run in the top of the ninth inning to spoil Heesch's shutout bid when Reed Harper (Austin Peay) scored on a wild pitch, but it wasn't enough to bring the Owls out of their hole.

The Owls continue their three-game road swing tomorrow night, when they visit the Fayetteville Swampdogs. First pitch at J.P. Riddle Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
