Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Major League Soccer (MLS) announced today that Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Camilo Sanvezzo has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star gameday roster. On July 31, Camilo and the rest of the MLS All-Stars host AS Roma at Sporting Park at 6 p.m. PT live on TSN and RDS.

This is the first MLS All-Star Game selection for Camilo, who was named Week 17 MLS Player of the Week and was runner-up for Player of the Month in June. The third-year ‘Caps striker returns to the scene of his Week 19 MLS Goal of the Week nomination, a superb curling free kick against Sporting Kansas City on July 3.

The Brazilian has been instrumental in Vancouver's latest run of good form having scored nine goals in his last seven matches. Camilo now leads the league lead in goals with 12 following his brace against Chicago Fire yesterday at BC Place. The 3-1 win improved Vancouver to 9W-5L-5D on the season and 5W-0L-1D in their past six matches. The ‘Caps currently sit in third place in the Western Conference - only one point behind second place Portland Timbers - and are fourth overall in the Supporters Shield standings.

Camilo's contributions have helped Vancouver remain the only unbeaten team at home in MLS. The ‘Caps are now 7W-0L-3D at BC Place so far in MLS play this season.

Because of the competitive format -- MLS vs. the World -- of the AT&T All-Star Game, MLS asked All-Star head coach Peter Vermes to select from among all available players, and he constructed a dynamic, balanced roster loaded with the league's top talent.

Vermes selected all 11 of the original fan-voted All-Stars. Nine roster selections are MLS All-Stars for the first time, with 12 of the 19 MLS teams represented.

MLS commissioner Don Garber rounded out the roster by selecting Seattle Sounders FC homegrown defender DeAndre Yedlin and New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill as 2013 MLS All-Stars.
