Braves win thrilling season finale in Birmingham

Hoover, AL- In the final game of the series, the Mississippi Braves edged the Birmingham Barons 2-1 and took the series three games to one. J.J. Hoover struck out a season high, 12 batters in earning the win. Braves' pitchers struck out a total of 14 batters and finished the season with 1,145 strikeouts. The total shatters the old record for K's in a season by an M-Braves pitching staff, (1,033 in 2007). Mississippi falls 43 strikeouts from tying the league record, set in 2007 by the Jacksonville Suns. 

Mauro Gomez collected his 80th RBI of the season, which is the new record for RBI's in a single season by an M-Braves player.

After four scoreless inning, the Barons brought in their only run of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Dale Mollenhauer's RBI single scored John Shelby III. Mississippi evened the score in the 6th. Mycal Jones tripled to lead off the inning and Mauro Gomez's sac-fly RBI tied the game at 1-1. An inning later, L.V. Ware doubled to lead off the inning and was moved to third on a ground out from Michael Daniel. Shawn McGill then grounded to second baseman, Tyler Kuhn, who threw to the plate late. Ware scored and the Braves led 2-1. After Jaye Chapman delivered two shutout innings in relief of J.J. Hoover, Juan Abreu came on and finished the 9th to earn the save. 

The next Mississippi Braves game will be opening day of the 2011 season, when the Jackson Generals (fomerly the West Tenn Diamond-Jaxx), face the Braves at Trustmark Park. April 7th, 2011 will be opening day for Mississippi.
