Mississippi Braves News Release

The Mississippi Braves fell for the third night in a row, this time to Birmingham, 10-3.

The Braves jumped out on top 2-0, but it would be the last lead they'd see. In the bottom of the third Wes Timmons led off with a single up the middle. Jeff Francoeur then doubled in Timmons and Scott Thorman singled in Francoeur and the Braves led 2-0.

The Barons came back with at least one run in the next six innings. They plated 10 runs in all, highlighted by solo homers from Antoin Gray and Chris Young. Birmingham plated four runs in the fifth to bust the game open.

Gray led off with his solo homer. Young was hit by a pitch, Ryan Sweeney walked, and Casey Rogowski walked to load the bases. A wild pitch brought Young to the plate then Josh Fields hit a sacrifice fly that plated Sweeney. Darren Blakely then singled in Rogowski for a 5-1 lead.

The Braves never recovered as Matt Wright (4.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR) suffered his fifth loss of the year. BJ Lamura (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) improved to 1-2 on the year.

The Braves will face off against the Barons again tomorrow night in the series finale. Matt Coenen (2-2, 3.05) will face Nick Lubisich (4-3, 3.76) at 7:05 at Trustmark Park.
