Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Ottawa Lynx 9-4 at The Diamond Friday. Richmond pounded 18 hits as they won their sixth straight game and swept a five game series from the Lynx.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Brayan Pena. They blew the game open in the third, scoring seven runs to open up an 8-0 lead. Doug Clark smacked a three run homer. Brandon Jones and Martin Prado produced runs with singles. Brent Lillibridge knocked in a run with a triple and Corky Miller picked up an RBI with a sac fly. The Lynx scored three in the fourth. Pedro Swann, Michael Garciaparra, and Carlos Leon knocked in runs with singles. The Braves tacked on a run in the seventh on a sac fly by Trey Hodges. The Lynx picked up one more run in the ninth on an RBI single by Dusty Wathan.
Hodges pitched four innings of hitless relief to earn the win. Matt Childers took the loss. Pete Orr had four hits for the Braves. All nine Braves starters had at least one. Garciaparra had two hits for the Lynx.
The Braves open a four game road trip Saturday at Toledo. Kyle Davies will pitch for Richmond. The Braves return home August 1 with a 6 PM doubleheader against Indianapolis.
