LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Braves beat the Lynx 2-0 Thursday at The Diamond. Five Braves pitchers combined to blank the Lynx on three hits as Richmond won their fifth straight game. The Braves picked up all the offense they would need in the first inning when Carlos Mendez knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Richmond was gifted with an insurance run in the eighth on four walks. Wes Timmons drew a bases loaded walk to knock in a run. Meanwhile the Lynx had just one runner past first base. The Braves equaled a season low with two hits. Ryan Basner picked up the win. Braves starter Dan Smith, in his first start back from the DL, did not allow a run in four innings. Manny Acosta notched a save. Zach Schreiber and Will Startup also contributed scoreless stints. Fabio Castro took the loss.
SHOOTING FOR SIX: The Braves have won five straight games, their second longest winning streak of the season (Richmond won eight in a row April 25-May 3). It is the longest current winning streak in the IL. Officially they have won three straight at home. Their longest home winning streak of the year is five.
THE LAST ROUNDUP: The Braves and Lynx meet for the final time ever tonight. Ottawa will re-locate to Allentown, PA to become the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in 2008. The Lynx began play in 1993. Richmond wrapped up the all-time series by winning this series.
DIAL ZERO: The Braves notched their IL leading 13th shutout of the season last night and their second in four days. The last time the Braves had more than 13 shutouts in a season was 1995 when they had 14. The Braves need six in the final 38 games to tie the club record of 19 (set in 1967).
TOUGH WITH TWO: The Braves were held to a season equaling low two hits last night. It was the fourth time this season the Braves have been two-hit. Richmond is 2-2 when held to two hits. Last night was the first time any IL club other than Durham two-hit the Braves this season.
LEADING LIGHTS: Martin Prado leads the IL in hitting (.237). The Braves lead the IL in ERA (3.49), shutouts (12), and fewest home runs allowed (62). Richmond is second in steals (104). The Braves lead the International League in fielding percentage (.984), fewest errors committed (60), and highest percentage of opponents caught stealing (59- 131 .450). Corky Miller leads the league's catchers in (36-77 .468).
CRUNCHY NUMBERS: Martin Prado (9-23 .381) has hits in six straight games. Doug Clark's six game hitting streak ended last night. Carlos Mendez four game hitting streak ended last night. Brent Lillibridge drew three walks last night, equaling a club season high. The eight walks drawn by the Braves last night also equals a season high. Starting August 1, the Braves play 22 of their final 34 games at home.
MASH UNIT: The Braves currently have six players on the Disabled List: RHP Ryan Baerlocher, RHP Jonathan Johnson, INF Jonathan Schuerholz, INF Barbaro Canizares, OF T.J. Bohn, and OF Gregor Blanco.
