
Braves fall to Lookouts in first game home

Mississippi Braves News Release
The Braves jumped on top in the top of the first as Luis Hernandez singled, moved to third on a single by Yunel Escobar, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Barbaro Canizares. Mississippi made the score 2-0 in the third when Gregor Blanco led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Luis Hernandez. After Hernandez's single, he got in a rundown between first and second during which Blanco came in to score and give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Mississippi added another run in the fourth after Josh Arteaga doubled to left. He moved to third on a single by Daniel Curtis and scored on a single by Gregor Blanco making the scored 3-0 Braves.
Chattanooga tied the score in the fifth after Anderson Machado led off with a double. After the Braves got two outs in the inning, Dewayne Wise walked and Luis Bolivar singled bring Machado to the plate. Joey Votto came through with a two-out single to right that brought both Wise and Bolivar to the plate to tie the score at three.
The Braves retook the lead in the sixth after Josh Arteaga walked and Mike Rozema ripped a ground-rule double to left-center. After falling behind in the count 0-2, Gregor Blanco battled back to a 2-2 count before shooting a single through the left side of the infield, bringing Arteaga to the plate with the go-ahead run and moving Rozema to third. Rozema scored when Gregor Blanco got caught in a rundown on a delayed steal to make the score 5-3 Braves.
Chattanooga took the lead in the eighth after Aaron Herr reached on and error. Noochie Varner singled and Christopher Dickerson doubled to bring Herr and Varner to the plate to tie the game at five. Jovan Moran hit into a fielder's choice that brought Dickerson to the plate with the go-ahead run.
Braves' starter Daniel Curtis (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) left the game with a 5-3 lead but failed to factor into the decision. Jose Ascanio (1.0+ IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 K) allowed 3 runs in the eighth to fall to 2-1 on the year. Dan Smith (2.0 IP, 2 BB, 4 K) threw two scoreless innings..
Lookouts' starter Tyler Pelland (4.0 IP, 8 H, R H, 2 R, 4 BB) did not factor into the decision as he left the game trailing 3-0. Carlos Guevara (1.0 IP, 2 K) threw one scoreless inning. Calvin Medlock (1.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) gave up two runs in the sixth. Carlos Alvarado (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 K) threw one shutout inning and improved to 3-0 on the year. Jon Coutlangus (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K) threw one scoreless inning. David Shafer (1.0 IP, 1 K) threw a shutout ninth inning to record his 18th save on the year.
Game two between the Braves and the Lookouts is tomorrow night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 pm. The Braves send righty Sean White to the hill in search of his fourth win of the season while the Lookouts counter with righty Steve Kelly.
