MOBILE, AL- Thursday's game at Hank Aaron Stadium was tied at three until the seventh inning. Tennessee's Danny Richar grounded out to break the tie. The Smokies would go on to score twice in the eighth and once in the ninth to beat Mobile 7-3. Jerry Gil had two home runs for the Smokies, who had four longballs as a team.
The BayBears had two home runs in the second inning, when Joey Gomes and Stephen Smitherman hit back-to-back shots. Juan Ciriaco hit an RBI triple a few batters later, and the BayBears had an early 3-0 lead. The three-run second was the only inning in which the BayBears scored Thursday. Jared Wells (4-3) took his second straight loss, tossing seven innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.
The BayBears and Smokies will play again Friday at 7:05. Roger Deago (4-3) will throw for Mobile against Tennessee?s Steven Jackson (2-4). All BayBears games can be heard on 1480 AM WABB, Comcast Cable Channel 18, and on the internet via mobilebaybears.com.
