June 3, 2022 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Rome Emperors News Release
ROME, GA - The Rome Braves and Bowling Green Hot Rods teed it up on Friday night for game four of six between the two teams. Rome's Royber Salinas would get the ball in just his second start at home, while Bowling Green would turn to Mason Montgomery in the pivotal matchup.
Montgomery would enter the night with one win and two loses and a 1.89 earned run average, and continued to build on his impressive season stat line. Montgomery would make quick work of the Braves and prove why he is in the conversation as one of the best pitchers in the South Atlantic League. When the night was done, Montgomery would head to the showers with five full innings under his belt along with no runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.
The Braves would get on the board as soon ad Montgomery departed, as Justyn-Henry Malloy belted his seventh homer of the season and his second in as many nights. Royber Salinas would keep the Hot Rod bats at bay for as long and as best he could. Just like Montgomery, Salinas would call it a night after five full innings. Bowling Green would tab Salinas for two runs on five hits but would strike out six times.
The Braves would surge late in the ninth with a pinch hit single from Drew Campbell that would score Beau Philip. Cody Milligan would single in the next at bat, putting the Braves in a prime position to at least tie the game, but a Vaughn Grissom strikeout would extinguish the rally and end the night for the Rome Braves.
After falling in Friday night's contest by a final score of three runs to two, Rome now reverts to a game and a half deficit behind the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the SAL South. The Braves and Hot Rods will pick right back up tomorrow night for a 6:05 pm first pitch, with lefty Luis De Avila getting the starting nod for the Rome Braves. Rome still has an opportunity to win the series and walk away with sole possession of first place but will need to win out to do so. About Rome Braves
