RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Ottawa Lynx 3-2 at The Diamond Sunday. Brayan Pena's walk off single in the ninth gave the Braves a come from behind win.
The Lynx broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning on a two out, two run single by Fernando Tatis. The Braves tied the game with two runs in the home half on an RBI ground ball by Brayan Pena and a run scoring single by Carlos Mendez. In the ninth, Martin Prado led off with a double and scored on Pena's single to give the Braves the win.
Will Startup earned the win in relief. Winston Abreu took the loss. Braves starter Jason Shiell worked eight innings, equaling the longest outing by a Braves starter this season (Travis Smith worked eight innings vs. Columbus May 9). Pena knocked in two runs and scored one for the Braves. Fernando Tatis and Eli Whiteside had two hits each for the Lynx.
The Braves battle the Lynx again Monday at 7 PM at The Diamond. Following the game the Braves will have the first of their two post-game Fireworks Extravaganzas. A limited number of tickets are still available.
