Braves Blow Early Three-Run Lead, Drop Game 1 in Mobile

Mobile, AL - In the first game a five-game series, the Mobile BayBears scores nine unanswered runs to beat Richard Sullivan and the M-Braves. Barry Enright settled down after giving up three early runs and along with reliever, Leyson Septimo, limited the Braves to just three hits from the 3rd inning on.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the Braves used to the long ball to take an early 3-0 lead. Mauro Gomez led off the inning with a single, which was followed by the 7th homer run of the season from Donell Linares. The two-run shot made it 2-0, Mississippi. Two batters later, Michael Daniel, who was making his debut in Mississippi, came up to the plate for is first at-bat. Daniel blasted a home run over the right field wall, a solo shot that made the score 3-0, Mississippi.

In the bottom of the inning, Mobile would answer with a run of their own. With two outs and nobody on base, Sullivan walked Taylor Harbin and a wild pitch allowed him to take second base. The next batter, Jake Elmore, delivered a single to right field and drove in Harbin to put Mobile on the board. At the end of two innings, the M-Braves led 3-1.

An inning later, Sullivan would see his lead vanish as the BayBears sent seven batters to the plate and score four of them on a grand-slam from Bryan Byrne. Two walks to Evan Frey and Konrad Schmidt sandwiched a single by Collin Cowgill to load the bases. Byrne then came up and clubbed one over the left field wall to give the BayBears a 5-3 lead. It was the fist grand-slam the Braves have given up since July 5th, 2009, when Logan Morrison of the Jacksonville Suns hit one at Trustmark Park. Sullivan is now (0-4) with three no decisions in his last seven starts and hasn't won since April 18th.

The BayBears added four more runs in the 6th inning by sending ten men to the plate. Frey, Cowgill, Schmidt and Enright all delivered RBI's as they delivered the knock-out blow to the M-Braves. At the end of the 6th, Mississippi trailed 9-3 and wouldn't score again. Leyson Septimo entered for the 8th and 9th and pitched two scoreless frames, while striking out five. Final score, Mobile 9, Mississippi 3.

Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 from Hank Aaron Stadium. The M-Braves will use LHP Mike Minor (1-3; 3.44) against Mobile's RHP Josh Collmenter (1-0; 0.00).
