Jaxx Begin Road Trip with Loss to Carolina

ZEBULON, NC. (May 26, 2010) - After a rain out on Monday and a travel day on Tuesday the Diamond Jaxx (23-22) offense once again flutters and just produces four hits in a 6-2 loss to the Carolina Mudcats (22-24) at Five County Stadium. The Jaxx drew nine walks from Carolina pitching, but stranded a season high 14 runners on base. West Tenn was 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.The loss drops the Jaxx to 4 ½ games behind Tennessee in the Southern League North Division.

Mauricio Robles (3-2) suffered the loss for the Jaxx tying for his shortest outing of the season at four innings. Robles surrendered five runs on seven hits and struck out five while walking three. Travis Webb (2-2) earned the win for Carolina dealing five innings and allowing just one run on two hits. He did walk six but struck out seven. Both teams used four pitchers in the game.

The only mult-hit game for the Jaxx came from Jose Yepez as he went 2-for-5. The Mudcats Jake Kahaulelio was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Chris Danielson and Chris Denove each had two hits for Carolina.

Carolina left fielder Sean Danielson blasted a 2-run homerun, his first of the year in the bottom of the third to get the Mudcats on top first 2-0. The Mudcats stranded the bases loaded in the third and opened the inning with four straight hits.

Carolina pushed three more runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning and they did it with two outs. Jake Kahaulelio drove in Chris Denove with a double down the third base line to make it 3-0. Sean Henry brought in Kris Negron and Kahaulelio with a single to push the edge to 5-0.

The Jaxx finally got on the board against Webb in the top of the fifth. Carlos Triunfel plated Nate Tenbrink to cut the Carolina lead to 5-1. The Jaxx loaded the bases but Webb struck out two to strand the bases loaded.

Scott Savastano got his first Diamond Jaxx RBI in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Kuo Hui Lo from second base. Lo got in scoring position on his sixth double of the year. The Jaxx trimmed the margin to 5-2.

Sean Danielson opened up the Mudcats half of the sixth inning with a double and came around to score on the second RBI of the game by Kahaulelio. The Mudcats finalized their 6-2 victory.

The Mudcats and Diamond Jaxx meet again Thursday Night at Five County Stadium, with first pitch at 6:15 CDT. RHP Michael Pineda (3-1, 2.23) makes the start for West Tenn and LHP Alexander Smit (1-2. 8.69) for Carolina.
